Do I Need Content for SEO

Posted on September 3, 2020September 3, 2020 by Jacob B Doyle

If You Want Organic Search Visibility, Rankings, and Traffic, Then You Need To Commit To Consistent Content Creation

Is content important for SEO? The short answer is, “Yes”. Content is enormously important to SEO because it’s impossible for your website to rank on the search engine results page (SERP) without it.  To find out exactly how and why content affects SEO, you need to keep reading.

Why is Content Important for SEO

Regularly adding unique content to your website is critical to running an effective SEO campaign because brands that frequently create unique, high-quality content almost always rank higher than their competitors in the SERP.

Why? Because search engines, like Google, rank web pages based on how useful, relevant, and comprehensive their content is to the reader. If your content is more helpful, authoritative, and comprehensive than your competitors, then your website will benefit from greater organic search visibility, rankings, and traffic.

How Does Content Improve SEO

Though many organizations consider SEO and content marketing to be completely different strategies, they’re actually two sides of the same coin. Without high-quality content, it’s impossible to realize the full benefits of SEO, like:

  • Increased Organic Traffic
  • Improved Backlink Profile
  • Strengthened Domain Authority
  • A Library of Traffic-Generating Pages
  • More Featured Snippets
  • Decreased Bounce Rate
  • More Organic Traffic
  • Optimized Internal Linking

On the other hand, your content is going nowhere unless people search and find it. For that to happen, you need SEO. If you take anything from this article, it should be that SEO and content marketing do not work in isolation. You need both elements to improve your organic search rankings.

Does More Content Boost SEO

So, how much content do you need to boost SEO? The answer to that question is more complicated. In short, if your aim is to boost SEO, you want as much unique, high-quality, content on your site as you can publish.

That being said, the key words in that sentence are unique, high-quality, content. You won’t be doing yourself any favors by creating a library of crappy content. In fact, doing so may actually get you slapped with Google penalties that are near impossible to recover from.

Remember, the goal of SEO is to improve search visibility, rankings, and traffic. To achieve that goal, your content needs to convey useful information in a contextually relevant manner, written in a way that solicits emotion and engagement in your target audience.

If coming up with new and unique content on a regular basis sounds like a difficult task, that’s because it is. But this article on How to Source and Come Up with Content Ideas will help you rise to the occasion.

Does Word Count Matter for SEO

Though this question sounds simple, SEOs have been arguing over its answer for years. So, for our answer, we go straight to the source. According to Google’s Senior Webmaster Trends Analyst, John Mueller, reaching a specific word count does not help a page rank better.

That being said, there is a nuance to word count that is commonly overlooked. The trick to nailing your word count is staying on subject. Over-written content tends to drift off topic and is, therefore, less comprehensive and authoritative.

Trust me, as a professional content writer and blogger, I run into this issue everyday. Though long-form content (2000 words or more) is extremely beneficial to SEO, it can be detrimental to your rankings if it is not relevant to the user.

In that regard, I could go off on a tangent about the benefits and potential pitfalls of long form content, but that isn’t the topic of this article. Therefore, I’m going to leave this link to my long-form content page so you can explore that topic in greater depth and we can stay on subject.

How do I create SEO Content

Alright, so now you know that content is critical to your SEO efforts. But knowing SEO content is important and creating SEO content are two entirely different things. Fortunately, there are resources that will show you How to Write for SEO and How to Outsource Content Marketing.

Before you go, you should understand this – The success of your SEO content depends on how well you understand the search intent of your audience and create content that caters to the users ultimate goal.

There are a lot of content farms out there that only write for search engines and it’s obvious when you read their stuff. Their content is clunky and often doesn’t make sense to a native English speaker.

Fortunately, you don’t have to settle for crappy content or pay a premium for the good stuff. All you have to do is contact me for a consultation. Unlike content farms, I write for your reader first and the search engines second, which is precisely how Google wants it. So contact me today to get started.
